I would just like to thank Cédric Biscay the CEO of Shibuya Productions who was mastermind behind the event for putting on a one of a kind Anime and Game Conference in the heart of Monaco at Grimaldi Forum.

Probably the best highlight of the conference was watching the cosplay masters competition it was a joy to watch all the awesome costumes just before main event with Yu Suzuki and teaser trailer.

Wish I was better presented when meeting Cédric Biscay rushed out the door in the morning my hair was a mess for the Magic Monaco 2018 International Anime Game Conference thanks mum!!! 🙁 some people lack patience meh…
Cédric Biscay is a genius at running events/conferences and all for free I might add, I would recommend anyone who is into comic-cons and pop-culture or the gaming scene to attend Magic or go along in cosplay, you will also feel at home at this event and certainly get a warm welcoming with a relaxed atmosphere through out the day – it was a shame the anime and game conference was only on for the one day because you will most certainly feel ‘Monaco and Magic Blues’ after it’s finished. A real spellbinding and memorable experience.
The anime game conference will not fail to deliver there was something for everyone from – Cosplay Masters, Artists, Famous movie celebrities and game creators and competitions and Gaming Tournaments.
The event was out of this world beyond fun and entertaining and full of lovely and friendly people from the guests who took part and the many people that attended.
Managed to meet friends from communities I have been apart of from around the world, all to meet up at Magic Monaco 2018 International Anime and Game Conference for one reason only that is because of ‘Shenmue’ it was indeed a true international event.
Highlight of the event for me personally was getting my two copies of Shenmue I & II signed by “Yu Suzuki” and handing over a poster, a gift that my good friend Fintan Bourke wanted me to give to Yu Suzuki in person.
This meant allot for me meeting childhood hero of mine when I got my stuff signed most certainly lifted my mood most certainly happiest moments of my life. Being such influence on me and for many of us.

I will be getting other Shenmue fans to write-up a report on the event what has been shown. I feel my report is coming from someone who has more experience with managing projects what to be expected.
How I personally feel the direction Shenmue III should be going in what I say it not reflection on others but my own personal opinion.
Mostly what has been reported on regarding Shenmue III latest updates and development has been mixed. My take is not to down play but to be critical and to create awareness and to take into consideration what I have to say regarding what we have been shown and direction project need to take before final release date.
I have to admit travelling all the way from England to Monaco just to see the latest development how Shenmue III was progressing to end-up feeling like flat-tire. Expecting allot more on the game development and progress on Shenmue III.
Especially after 2 and half years waiting in patience for news on Shenmue 3 game development and progress.
All that was shown was 4 screenshots of the latest build of Shenmue III this could of easily been done in Kick-Starter update not the actual meat I was expecting from the conference at least.
Maybe I had too high expectation at this stage could put this down to the first Magic Monaco 2016 conference being super-successful when the latest Shenmue 3 environments that were shown at that event; I thought because of that this conference might be just the same and after many years, especially Shenmue III being in development this event would be even better and something to remember.
Don’t get me wrong the event was fantastic it’s just a shame Shenmue III ended being weakest part and not the jaw dropping experience I was expecting… Why would it not be? Plus there was allot of hype over this anime game conference as well.
All the die-hard Shenmue fans also attended this event, some that donated more than $10K in Kick-Starter donations. Imagine how they might of felt with the lack-lustre experience most wearing red press conference arm bands to report on Shenmue III.
Shenmue III Expectations: seeing as the game might be released in the last half of 2018 they would want to show as much as they can now… Sadly this was not the case at all instead we are still being dripped-fed content and the context how that is being delivered regarding Shenmue III development what stage the game is at very muddy situation.
We are contending with content shown at Gamecom 2017 gaming event by Deep Silver mainly the trailer and the promotional graphics, the screenshots by Cédric Biscay Paris Press Conference and the character models Yu Suzuki is still promoting even at Magic Monaco International Anime Game Conference 2018.
As you can clearly see…. It’s the same models used at Gamecom 2017. Why not use what Cédric Biscay had shown off in the Paris Press Conference – Reasons like this we are all confused as to what is going on with game development what to expect.
It’s beyond confusing as what will be part main build of Shenmue III
It’s all well saying yes the game is in development / progressing and subject to change… but still having a few final things set in-stone would go along way in easing many Shenmue III fans anxieties.
Yes… Some hit the mark at the same time they’re is also something pulling that back to damage publicity of the game like one person is pulling one way and another guy pulling it in another…
When you think about it you have 3 stake holders Cédric Biscay, Deep Silver and Yu Suzuki.
No clear idea if the game will even be released at the end of 2018 or be of a high enough standard because we only have screenshots to go on at this very stage.
We cannot go on with just screenshots alone to decide if Shenmue III will be the game we all want; we need to see the actual guts of the game development and the game-play.
I would rather not be harsh with my wording: I am not the kind of guy to be a blind fan-boy, rather just say how it is. Also because George Lucas had to deal with the same issues, look at how Star Wars prequels turned out – I just hope Yu Suzuki is not surrounded by ‘yes men’ some feedback can be massive game changer collaboration between partners is key.
Criticism is needed especially now at this stage in Shenmue III development I honestly think it’s time we started seeing an improvement publicity speaking and promotional material wise.
I feel quality control has gone out the window and lack of respect for all those that have backed the game what should be expected at this stage could be so much better a list of things we were expecting sadly have no-idea on and not shown at Magic Monaco 2018 Anime Game Conference with Yu Suzuki on Shenmue III development:
- Game play
- Voice Acting
- Environment Interaction
- Examples of Gaming Mechanics
- Fighting machanics
- Interface design
- Mini Games
- Final Models we should expect how Ryo Hazuki and Shenhua will look like
- Environment exploration eg: checking draws and cabinets opening doors picking up items.
Like I said there is allot we don’t fully know about the game and level of completion development is at.
A Kick-Starter Game I thought “transparency” would be most important aspect of the development cycle.
Someone who runs projects for free and has experience doing this myself: I have run online campaigns. We always make sure the quality is of high standard and cool to look at something we do for free I might add.
Check this very website out doing my part to ensure Shenmue 3 is promoted in the best possible light.
In order to keep that up you need to throw us a “bone” give us something to work with only so much blind-fan-boys and sugar-coating will save the game and the publicity it will get.
I feel allot of Shenmue fans are getting sick and tired of playing damage control.
Please take this as positive criticism: we all want Shenmue III to succeed but for that to happen certain steps need to be taken to ensure that it’s massive success.
Shenmue III has $6 million budget surely this should be enough to put small trailer game demo aside regardless if this is not AAA standard it’s still allot of money that was willingly donated by Shenmue fans.
I am annoyed that I have to say and point these problems and issues out when it should be obvious and simple practices and standards should be followed.
It’s like self-awareness or importance of the project has become running joke ‘publicity speaking’ or project sabotage is at play try to down play quality of the end product.
I wont lie: I am expecting something of quality also should be expected they’re is allot passion for Shenmue. I would expect the same people working on the game would have the same level as the many fans do as well.
A game for the fans by the fans right?
Personally allot of ‘red flags’ to suggest a delay is inevitable personally I am worried about this; we have no idea how much funds are still available to keep the game in development normally when funds are dry games end up being rushed out the door.
When people say more development time is needed yes this is cool idea in “theory” but the “practicality” and being realistic probably wont work out like that unless Deep Silver has bottomless-pit of money or money-tree the project can leech off. We all know that is not the case because it took a bunch of die-hard Shenmue fan boys to get the game funded and made.
However: we still have E3 on the horizon all might be revealed at this gaming event coming from me not to release as much footage even for event like Magic is a worrying. Especially seeing the game could very well be less than a year away from development.
We have to be honest realistic about this situation and take heed with what information we have been given and reception and quality of the screenshots and leaked game footage.
Believe you me I want Shenmue III to be best it can be: also I want it to be best when you have something to show and of high quality and respect for those who donated right now anxieties are high.
The Crazy Time Conference with Cédric Biscay – pre-gamecom 2017 trailer of Shenmue III unedited version.
All honesty what was shown was the pre-gamecom 2017 un-edited teaser footage to be honest it was not actually that bad. I thought the trailer had allot of merits. However it does not highlight the best parts well in it’s context especially and mainly parts that we haven’t seen before.
However I have gone out my way to make best parts in ‘gif’ format I know Shenmue fans are going to be annoyed that I have done this. However: coming from me these are excellent demonstrate how Shenmue III is shaping up.
It’s baffles me how this was never shown at Gamecom in the first place – I see no problem with these snippets of mini games, QTE, NPC, Shop Environments.
This was exactly what we have been waiting to see: Regardless if they don’t want them shown. I honestly think the quality is good enough for public viewing, uploaded these on Twitter and on our group on Facebook.
All received well… zero, not one complaint so why hide the best parts that would sell the game better?
Ryo Hazuki trying to take on old man only to be toyed around with not land a single punch.
Quick Time Events – Boggles my mind they would take something so awesome out of the pre-gamecom 2017 footage this is great we get to see some extra NPC characters as well
QTE Title finally seeing Shenmue III first Mini Game
Great Environments brought to life with “none role playing characters” and also who does not love turtles.
Final conclusion on what was shown at Magic Monaco 2018 on Shenmue III development
Shenmue III is shaping up nicely great moments from un-edited version gamecom trailer 2017 that was shown at Cédric Biscay Crazy Time Conference. However the game could be executed better when it comes to ‘promotional material’ a more streamlined approach and great care and awareness when it comes to quality control.
We are honestly burnt out on ‘screenshots’ especially if the game is only a year away. Please do what I just did above create some short ‘mini-gif-animations’ what to expect if you have too just show examples/snippets would surely go along way gaining confidence back in the project.
I know might sound very critical but that is because I know Shenmue III has merits and can see where it counts, I want the best outcome all round.
So far we have seen (Ryo Hazuki take on Martial Artist), (first glimpse at mini-games being played), (QTE cut scenes), (also shop environments populated with people and with a shop that sells turtles! Just wow!)
Really Magic Monaco 2018 revealed allot it was just poorly executed, lets hope in the future, we can see an overall improvement it was great to finally meet and get my copies of Shenmue signed by Yu Suzuki it was one of highlights of my life.
I had the most awesome time at Cédric Biscay event at Magic Monaco 2018 and site seeing in Monaco as well.
