Earlier in the week we shared news from the fast growing video game market of China, where Shenmue III was being presented on stage to a local audience.
Members of the Shenmue Dojo forum have since been hard at work translating the most pertinent fan footage from the event, from the 35 minutes and 49 seconds mark on wards:
In the Q & A section at the end, Yu Suzuki explains part of his intentions for the series: “When you play a game like Shenmue then doing a good deed will be repaid to you somehow, or a good thing will occur, for example. I’d like there to be some positive effect on the player’s way of thinking through playing the game.”
As well as revealing prototype scenes never before shown in public, Yu also specified that Shenmue III is being structured to cover chapters 5 and 6 of the eleven-chapter saga. This highlights once again that it’s imperative for Shenmue III to achieve strong sales to enable the future completion of the series.
One of the biggest factors that will influence the game’s success will be whether or not Sega chooses to re-release Shenmue 1 & 2 for modern hardware, so that all gamers can actively join Ryo Hazuki’s quest from the beginning. Suzuki-san has expressed his own desire for this to happen, but responsibility for the first two games lies entirely with Sega.
With persistence and determination, this regular good deed may one day be repaid with a complete Shenmue series available to be enjoyed by all.
