Work has now begun on Shenmue III, the highest funded video game in Kickstarter history and the most requested sequel of all time. No pressure, guys.
Attending the kick-off meeting this week was a rogues gallery of those involved in the project, including the select line-up pictured here.
On the far left is a founding member of Awesome Japan, the team brought in by Ys Net to handle crowdfunding. Second from the left is animation advisor Hiroaki Takeuchi, who hosted the live Twitch stream counting down the Kickstarter’s final hours.
Second from the right is Yasuharu Sadaie, General Manager of Shibuya Productions Japan. Shibuya Productions is an international outfit bridging Japan with France, where Shenmue III co-producer Cedric Biscay had to tweet about the occasion from afar.
And of course on the far right, wearing goatee-shaped stubble and throwing up gang signs, Suzuki-san is looking like the baddest mofo this side of Kamurocho. Some mistake the hand gesture for a celebration of Shenmue’s third mainline title, when in reality it’s a grim warning from Yakuza Yu of what may befall the digits of any team member not pulling their weight now that development’s underway.
Like we said, no pressure, guys.
